·       Join us as, together, we take BACK our charities and bring CLARTIY TO CHARITY gift giving!

·       Contact your State’s Attorney General (Charitable Bureau) the next time you receive what you believe is an unethical or deceptive fundraising call! Write a letter of complaint or make a telephone call to the Office of the Attorney General in your state. Please mention that you are a volunteer or member of New Concepts Fund, Inc.

·       Please contact New Concepts Fund, Inc. with this complaint.  If you wish we can place your complaint with the Attorney General for you. We will record your complaint in our own files.

·       Detail is very important when lodging a complaint with the Attorney General’s office against a Vendor.  Please ask careful questions of the Fundraiser during the solicitation call.

a.)     Ask the Fundraiser what his/her name is, as well as what is the name of the Vendor. (Note if the Fundraiser says that he/she is calling from the Charity or on behalf of the Charity (should be on behalf of the Charity, not from….))

b.)    There are 14 states which mandate that a telefundraiser be registered as a professional fundraiser before he/she can make his/her first call into that state. If you live in AL, AR, GA, IL, KS, KY, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OK, RI, or SC, ask the Fundraiser what states his or her  registration status is.  (The Fundraiser may not know what you are talking about, record this as well.) Then contact your local AG and ask if that fundraiser is, indeed, registered in your state!

c.)      Ask the Fundraiser how much money the Charity will retain and how much money the Vendor gets from this solicitation call.  Carefully record the answer!!! Chances are the Fundraiser’s response is the beginning of a Consumer Protection Claim against the Vendor based on deceptive business practice.  (For instance it is a lie if the Vendor says that the Charity gets 100% of the dollars raised or collected!!!!)

d.)     Please ask the Fundraiser how the money will be used/spent.  Is this a membership renewal call or a special appeal call? Will money raised help on the local level or the state level or the national level? Or is the money going in to the Charity’s general fund?  Carefully record the answers – in most states it is a violation of consumer protection laws to misrepresent how the money raised will be used!! Report the Fundraiser’s answers to the Attorney General’s office – the AG’s office has a copy of the “approved” telefundraising script and can see if the Charity’s message is delivered by the Vendor or not. (Or we can do the reporting for you.)

thank you…………….
